Coby Really sucks. this is a cheap ass 30 dollar DVD player that i got and as you can see its not working I hooked it up and it skips like crazy and the DVD seen in this video is brand new bought from walmart it was in the dump bins. there is no music or movie clips in this video other than the cover of the DVD i hope thats ok on here. add Coby to the list of cheap crappy DVD players ill take a panasonic player i hope they r good. Do not buy this player unless you want to hack it and use it as a project box like im doing. I show the insides of this player and im probably gonna build a stereo amp out of this case and i hope it works good because the guts of this player are very cheaply made the reader is the issue its not the PS or mpeg 2 board, i could have taken a reader assembly from another DVD player but why bother. ive shot the case of this player with my airsoft gun and it dented it lol. well anyways you know what to do and enjoy the vid. UPDATE: i have finished building the DVD player amp i started on this little project this past sunday 5/17/09 and it works pretty good it is a little weak on my hard drive speaker but its only the amp of a boombox and its loud on my headphones. a video is coming soon.

be aware of the new blueray deals….. I am looking for one with an internal computer drive like when DVD players first became cheap. if anyone knows a model, please let me know.

I will probably just find a digital playback device where I can just rip my movies to a hard drive and then plug it into my TV. similar to Bose’s 321 system I believe, its the one where you can store music on a hard drive vs playing from the CDs, something like that but for videos.

February 8th, 2010 on 12:12 am

February 8th, 2010 on 6:34 am
its the whole player. gut it for the parts and buy a better one.
February 8th, 2010 on 6:36 am
no it’s not worth trying to fix these you are better off buying a new one. but save this one for the parts theres goodies inside that are useful like the motors and a laser diode. maybe theres a use for the mainboard. I have no clue.

DVD = suck. DVD players = suck.
Dvd’s scratch easily and wont play. BS CRAP technology.
August 29th, 2010 on 11:57 am
Well not really,
First when you play a coby DVD player, it has to be on a solid surface with no vibration. The vibration destroys the player.
Anyways with all that aside the Coby is excellent for the following:
1. PAL to NTSC and vice versa conversion. This is even better if the Coby is a 1080p upconverting DVD player in which case you can view the PAL DVD in its native PAL on a LCD TV(use a HDMI cable). Progressive scan too.
2. Its Cheap(50 bucks or less).
3.

Oh yeah with all these, your coby should last you for a long time as long as you take good care of it.(clean it regularly etc.). The coby never quit on me for 5 years now.
August 29th, 2010 on 12:00 pm
its also region free(well you have to go to a website and hack into it, very simple no need to open the machine.)
August 30th, 2010 on 9:16 pm
@Bander1
I have yet to buy a DVD player that you can hack to play any DVD and not have macrovision copy protection BS. I hope it’s a good quality one yet it can be hacked. and I’ve seen websites that have codes or whatever to make DVD players play any region DVD and output no macrovision.

@Ibringthetruth1
I dont really care for any optical media b/c of that reason CDs DVDs Etc. I prefer solid state or hard disk but solid state (no moving parts) is the way to go. think of a device playing a movie to your TV and you knock that device off the table, it hits the ground and doesnt skip a beat and keeps playing and not a scratch on it. now THAT is quality.

@coondogtheman1234
Actually the retailers in the USA and Canada cannot sell a region free DVD player but with simple hacks(you can do these region free hacks using your DVD controller), you can make many DVD players region free.
Coby DVDs are very easy to region hack and the do the PAL to DVD thing too.
August 30th, 2010 on 11:02 pm
@Bander1
so I can do this to any DVD player? I have access to a magnavox DVD player. I don’t know the model number on it but I can check some time. Is there a region free macrovision free hack for magnavox players?
August 30th, 2010 on 11:59 pm
@coondogtheman1234
Yes you can just go to the following website:
videohelp
They have a huge list of DVD players that you can hack. Coby is the easiest one so far that I know of.
BTW, the Coby you had is an old model, get an upconverting one(the latest) and a LCD TV with a HDMI connection.
Funny thing is that PAL DVDs fromt he UK seem to be more cheaper than US DVDs when bought from Amazon.UK. and PAL looks better than NTSC too.

November 15th, 2010 on 9:09 pm
